Wraysbury Dive Centre FAQs
When are you open? We are open seven days a week all year from 9am, with an out of water time of 5pm. We are open for night diving on Wednesdays (March – October every Wednesday) with an out of water time of 9pm. Don’t worry, the bar and kitchen are open until 10pm for the post dive ‘Arthur’s Special’ and a beer.
What methods of payment do you take? We can only accept cash for entry fees, equipment hire, air fills and food & drink. Our shop does accept cards (not Amex I am afraid) with a £15 minimum spend limit.
Can I get air fills? Yes – we have three compressors all delivering clean air fills to 300 bar. Air is triple filtered and exceeds British Standard Regulations. When you need air, come along to the compressor container and leave your empty cylinder where indicated. Leave your fill fee with the pump monkey and your cylinder will be filled as soon as possible. Full cylinders will be left outside the container on the left hand side. Please remember cylinders are your responsibility – even our pump monkeys with their brilliant observational skills cannot remember whose is whose.
Do you do mixed gases? Of course. We have helium and oxygen and have a nice, shiny Haskel pump on site. You will need to drop your cylinder off and pick up next day as giving accurate fills requires time. Please phone for more details before commencing any journey.
Do you run diving courses? We offer all courses from beginner to instructor with PADI, TDI and SDI. If you have any further questions, please use our contact page.
Can I just come diving? Yes – for your £9 entry fee you can dive all day with your buddy. If you don’t have a buddy, we can’t guarantee you one but suggest you come down, chill out and ask someone to be your friend..
Just qualified how do I go about diving? Come to the centre and go diving with your buddy or with one our instructors or divemasters to gain more confidence and get a chance to see the underwater objects as well as all the fish. Ask about our £45 and dive offer!
I have no equipment – can I hire some? No problem. We can hire you any equipment you need for a days diving (except drysuits, hoods, gloves and boots). Please see our Compressor Department for prices.
Do you have a shop on site? Yes. We have a shop catering for those things you have lost, forgotten or broken and a great range of shiny things that you simply MUST have. However, we can supply all equipment for all diving requirements. We are dealers for the following:- Suunto, Typhoon, Aqualung, Apeks, Atomic, Sea & Sea, IST, Bare, Diverite, Bowstone, McMahon, A P Valves (Buddy) to name but a few. Just let us know what you are looking for.
Do you organise diving trips to the coast? Yes - we go diving using only the best skippers and dive boats along the South Coast in Brighton, Poole, Weymouth and Lyme Regis. Dive dates are posted on this website – see divetrips. Booking is on a first come, first served basis.
Do you organise diving holidays? Yes. We organise diving holidays to places that we want to go to! We don’t just do the Red Sea for example. Keep an eye out for holiday information.
What refreshments can I buy? We have the obvious tea, coffee, hot chocolate, canned drinks, water and can offer the best bacon/egg/sausage butties, burgers, chips including Arthur’s world famous cheesy variety, hot homemade soup, nachos, pasties and chocolate bars for that sugar rush. You have to try the warm muffins and chocolate fudge cake! We also have a licensed bar – The Scubar – in the main building which is open everyday from 12pm until we close so you can enjoy a beer after your dive.
Can I use the main building? Of course. It is there for your comfort and warmth regardless of whether you are wet or dry, making it possible for you to dive all year round. Besides the bar is in there!
Where do I park? We have plenty of on site parking. You will be parked as close to the water as we can get you by one of our staff – all we ask is that you co-operate with our car parking department so we can park everyone up quickly and safely. We appreciate you are extremely fond of your buddy but you really won’t be too far apart! Please keep off the grass unless instructed to drive onto it – we try hard to keep it nice! We try to minimise the carrying distance of your equipment! Tip: Arrive after 9am and you will be closer..!
Can I change in private? Yes we do not encourage exhibitionism! We now have a toilet and changing room block with ladies, gents and disabled facilities and nice large changing rooms – all we ask is that you don’t empty your water filled boots in them – makes it unpleasant for the next person.
Do you have showers? No – due to the fact we are based in nature reserve we do not have running water and after all you are diving in fresh water. All water we use is filtered and brought in on the day – so you get an excellent cup of tea!
Can I Solo Dive at Wraysbury? Not unless you hold a Solo Diving Qualification and then you must also seek permission from Wraysbury Dive Centre. Note: The TDI Trimix Qualification DOES NOT qualify you to dive solo. Solo diving with a rebreather is not allowed under any circumstances even if you hold the Solo Diving Qualification. Comments such as ‘just doing a weight check’ and ‘just practicing shut-downs’ will be met with the appropriate response
